Swedish Massage FAQ
1. What exactly is a relaxation massage?
- Relaxation massage is a smooth, gentle style of massage designed to improve circulation, range of movement, relieve minor muscle pain, and promote overall relaxation.
2. What techniques are used in a relaxation massage?
- Techniques include long strokes, deep circular movements, vibration, and tapping to help relax and energize the body.
3. How long is a typical relaxation massage session?
- Sessions typically last from 60 minutes to 120 minutes, depending on the client’s preference and the treatment goals. Head massage is available for 30 minute sessions at my Lutterworth treatment room and can be included in a mobile massage treatment too.
4. What should I wear during a relaxation massage?
- You should wear loose-fitting clothing or you may be asked to undress down to your comfort level. It is difficult to give a full body massage to someone wearing full body armour! The areas not being massaged will be covered by a sheet or towel.
5. Is oil used during a relaxation massage?
- Yes, oils or lotions are used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. This also helps hydrate the skin. In my Lutterworth treatment room I have a choice of Coconut Oil (with sea minerals), Cherry Blossom Oil, Baby Oil and Sweet Almond Oil. For home visits, you are free to provide your favourite massage oil for your treatment.
6. Can relaxation massage reduce stress?
- Absolutely! Relaxation massage decreases cortisol levels in the body while increasing levels of serotonin and dopamine, significantly reducing stress.
7. How often should I get a relaxation massage?
- It depends on a person’s lifestyle, budget, and needs. Some may benefit from a weekly session, while others might find once a month sufficient. Discounts can be offered for clients who pay for 6 massage treatments upfront. Relaxation Massage Therapy should never be seen as a "one off" treatment. It should be part of a balanced lifestyle.
8. Is relaxation massage safe for everyone?
- While it is safe for most people, those with certain medical conditions should consult their doctor first. It's important to share your health history with your therapist to personalise your treatment.
9. What are the main benefits of relaxation massage?
- Benefits include improved circulation, lower stress levels, pain relief, decreased anxiety, enhanced sleep quality, and greater energy.
11. Can massage help with sleep issues?
- Yes, many clients report better quality sleep following massage therapy because it promotes overall relaxation and stress relief.
12. Are there emotional benefits to relaxation massage?
- Besides physical benefits, it is also known to improve emotional health by promoting feelings of well-being and relaxation.
13. What should I do if I feel pain during the massage?
- Always communicate with me/your massage therapist if you feel discomfort during the session. I can adjust the technique to ensure your comfort.
15. Could a relaxation massage help enhance my mental focus?
- Relaxation massage can reduce mental stress, thereby improving concentration and productivity.

19. Can relaxation massage help with muscle recovery after sports?
- While primarily geared towards relaxation, it can also promote muscle recovery through improved circulation and reduced muscle tension.
- Please seek a Sports Injury Therapist for muscle recovery and sports injuries.
20. Is it normal to feel emotional after a relaxation massage?
